‘War and Peace’: why not?

If you may have found that summer and all its anticipated pleasures are sometimes not quite meeting your expectations, why not do something daring?  People, not just your peers, but just about everyone who reads at all, probably looks at a novel of the length of Tolstoi’s War and Peace as a challenge they just might not want to take on.

But, you, on the other hand, might just like to join that club of people with real guts and strong wills who have, in fact, taken on this classic (not a bad word) and very substantial novel  — which you just might have heard of…..

Not for the faint of heart, but if you’re an IB diploma student, it’s well worth your investigation, at least.  I envision a great university application essay built around taking on this novel independently –on your own initiative– and discovering how it relates to your life and the things you think about and value. But I could be wrong, of course…
