Who are the OSC teachers?
Our teachers are experienced teachers from top IB schools around the world. Many are also examiners – in our 2015 revision courses 93% were examiners for the IB.

Our teachers go through a strict and thorough recruitment process, and a mentoring programme if they are new to OSC.

I would like to sign up for two subjects. How long will the course be?
Each subject is 17.5 hours of tuition over 2.5 days so 2 subjects will be over 5 days.

As long as we can guarantee a different teacher, you can study a subject twice, in the same level. This will mean that you may gain the benefit of experiencing two different approaches to the subject.

How many students are in each class?
We ensure that there is a maximum of 10 students per class. This allows our students to have more one-on-one time with their teachers.

Do you have other questions?

COVID-19 Adapted

Feel safe so that you can focus on what counts.

We've been implementing a range of measures to offer you COVID-19 adapted at location courses, guaranteeing you a worry-free and safe experience. We’ve handpicked the locations that allow us to put into practice all of the following measures:

Social Distancing

We have optimised every inch of space in our classrooms, common areas and offices to ensure that everyone has the space to work comfortably and safely.

Staggered Class Times

Our classes run on different schedules throughout the day, to reduce footfall in common areas and to avoid any crowding or queues before class, during breaks and at the end of the day.

Face Coverings

Every member of staff and all of our students are required to wear face coverings at all times, unless they are seated at their designated work stations.

Temperature Checks on Arrival

Every individual who enters the venue is required to check in and have their temperature taken and contact details recorded. Daily temperature checks provide an added line of defence to our staff and students while on course.

About me

"I've been teaching chemistry ever since university where I studied biochemistry and I always enjoyed explaining it to people who were interested to know more. Chemistry is a challenging subject at IB Diploma level, so I find it very rewarding to help motivated students who need to understand it better and improve their grade."

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

28 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

An OSC course gives students the opportunity to focus exclusively on chemistry for a few days - something that is not normally possible at school. I can help students join up what they have learnt and see how the subject fits together, so it is great when you can see it begin to make much so more sense.

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Memorise carefully the facts you need to know (and make sure you know what these are), then practice as many past questions as you can, looking carefully at the feedback so you can continually improve.

About me

"It is always a joy to see the light dawning when I have been able to explain a mathematical concept or technique which was previously a closed book"

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

22 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

The camaraderie with colleagues, and making a difference for students.

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Practice as many exam-style questions as possible, and if you can’t do one (or get it wrong), find out why.

About me

"I love teaching because it must be one of the only vocations where you can use pretty well all the skills and knowledge you have picked up throughout your life, and - even better - you (almost always!) have an appreciative audience."

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

22 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

It gives me a strong injection of internationalism - you could say I'm addicted!

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Quality is as or more important as quantity: get the most out of every question you practise. Don't just answer a bunch of questions. Use them to practise speed, technique, concepts... Use up every drop of one question paper before you start another.

About me

"Maths excites me, patterns and algebra is a way for my brain to organise and tidy up and I love a neat environment! Calculus has always been my favourite as I love a puzzle. Lately, I have been working through further statistics and really enjoy working with big data sets for modelling purposes."

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

6 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

I really enjoy meeting students from all over the world and watching them come together to solve the same problems. The support staff are always cheerful, helpful and generally fantastic human beings who are willing to assist no matter how tough the challenge!

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

As far as maths is concerned, it is all about doing past paper questions. Start with 1 topic, and work through every paper, doing all the questions on that topic. Then do the other topics. I also recommend dividing a paper question by question. Those aiming for grade 7 should be able to attempt the most difficult questions (Q7-10).

About me

"Having been involved in either studying or teaching geography all of this century I am both fascinated and concerned about the changing dynamics of the planet we live on. As the subject has evolved, so has my passion. Whether it be environmental sustainability, demographic transition or how to respond to global pandemics, it continues to be the most relevant subject for encapsulating contemporary affairs."

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

7 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

The whole experience! There is a fantastic base of in-house OSC staff who make sure everything runs smoothly and I have the opportunity to work with great teachers and highly motivated students from all over the world.

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

For geography a top tip is to combine your case-studies wherever possible. For example, your 'detailed example' of a country with uneven population distribution could also be used as your 'case-study' of a country benefitting from a demographic dividend.

About me

"I love trying to reconstruct the past, looking for insights into what made and makes men and women tick, and discussing with students and colleagues the array of different perspectives from which our human experience can be viewed."

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

26 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

I love the buzz of the revision courses and the mix of students and tutors from across the IB world community.

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Start early and keep your revision active.

About me

"I've always loved literature so teaching the subject comes naturally to me. At university I was also introduced to linguistics which I found fascinating. So it is not surprising that I love taking my students into the worlds that literature creates or engaging them in the power of language to shape our thoughts, our understanding and our perceptions."

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

2 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

I like teaching with OSC because it is so effective and highly professional, while at the same time reaching the individual with a personal touch.

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Structure your revision time to alternate focused study with activity. The mind needs to rest and absorb between study sessions.

About me

"Chemistry is about atoms and molecules and how they interact. The universe is made from the interaction of atoms and molecules. So without chemistry, there wouldn't be anything!"

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

9 years

What do you enjoy about teaching with OSC?

I enjoy working with students from all over the globe and seeing them come together a form a dynamic class for a small period of time.

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Practice past paper questions. And then practice some more. And some more. And then check the markscheme.

About me

"The reason I love maths is that it there is no fuzzy logic; the answer is either right or wrong. Getting the answer to a challenging question is such a satisfying feeling!"

Q&A

How many years have you taught with OSC?

What is your best tip for revising for exams?

Two tips: Do maths at least one hour a day; work with past IB examination questions and always use the formula booklet. Be very familiar with your GDC.

Reflect, focus, and “chunk” your study. Stay realistic and invest in your strengths.
