The Man Made Human Chemical Store

Every Sunday, I enjoy sitting down to read the Sunday papers. In the UK, these are packed with supplements and mini papers. The largest on the market is the Sunday Times and there is really enough information in it to last a good week. A few weeks back, one of its supplements, (the Sunday Times Magazine …. I think it was) contained an excellent article.

The article dealt with chemicals inside us. It detailed a number of man made chemicals that are found in everyday items and that bio accumulate in our bodies…..

The substances mentioned included some whose names may be vaguely familiar but others whose names were unfamiliar. The chemicals included:

• Bisphenol A (BPA)
• Phthalates
• Brominanted Flame Retardants (BFRs)
• Synthetic musks
• Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs)
• Organochlorine Pesticides (OCPs)
• Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)

It is my intention to make some postings this week on some of the chemicals outlined in this article – it makes interesting and eye opening reading!
