In January I talked about the last visual arts grade award meeting and mentioned that examiners had the pleasure of meeting a teacher observer. Sometimes teacher observers go on to become examiners, and at least one has ascended to the heady height of DCE (Deputy Chief Examiner) – partly based on their experiences at the Grade Award meeting they attended.
The intention of inviting teacher observers is to encourage a wider understanding of the processes involved in the award of grades. Teachers who attend will be required to submit a report on their observations to the Head of Marking.
IB DP teachers are invited to apply to attend the May 2014 grade award meetings as observers for visual arts. The meetings are held at the IB Assessment Centre in Cardiff, Wales, during June 2014.
You don’t have to worry about paying for travel, food and accommodation because the good old IB meets the cost of all reasonable expenses for travel, accommodation and subsistence. (But of course you don’t get paid for attending the meeting).
Interested? If so, you must obtain written permission from your head of school and then apply in writing to Richard Thomas, Assessment Associate ([email protected]) at the IB Assessment Centre giving brief personal details and information about your experience as a DP visual arts teacher, and stating your name, the meeting you are interested in and the name, address and code of your school.
The closing date for applications is in ONE WEEK (15 February 2014).
If you are successful you will be notified by the end of March.
See you in June!?
