Online ART workshops – endings and beginnings…

I’ve just finished mentoring a category 1 online workshop for a hugely diverse group of art teachers spread out across the world – with participants logging on from such places as Abu Dhabi, South Korea, India, California, Hanoi, Shanghai, Sydney and Dar es Salaam.

The end of an intense 6 week workshop is always bittersweet – some sense of relief that I do not have to log on every day to check on posts, reply to questions and/or give feedback on assignments etc, but combined with the fact that suddenly it’s all over, all the invariably interesting correspondence and the insights, the often exciting dialogues between participants, the sense of community when teachers in these far flung locations meet virtually, communicate and share and exchange great ideas. Hopefully they will continue to communicate with each other and with me.

Its been hard work – for them and for me! – but undeniably enjoyable.

It’s certainly a busy time for the DP visual arts course: for beginners its not just a case of coming to terms with elements of the Diploma Programme and the contents of the visual arts course, there is also at the moment quite a few extra issues to talk about, including the end of the visiting examiner, the launch of the ‘e-CRB’ and the new role for teachers – as interviewers of their students when previously this was the examiner’s job.

I will be mentoring more workshops in May and October.
