Design for Learning and Play – A Great Design Based Project

Further inspiration for choosing a Major Project – yes I know I have posted before about this but it is really important to ensure that the problem you solve is a good one. I compare it to the Extended Essay – without a good question in the Extended Essay you do not write a good essay and get high marks. The same is true with your major project!

One good area to look into showing some ‘constructive discontent’ is in the area of design for younger children – whether this is toys, other activities that they need products for? Below are a few examples to get you thinking – note this sort of project is often easier if you have a younger brother or sister – but do remember you are in a school so maybe go and speak to some younger students in their classes to get ideas.

• A great design a wheelbarrow chair – and a two in one product – with simple materials that could easily be manufactured.

• Any keen coders out there – well why not design a simple wooden playset that enables young students to learn the basics of programming – what a great but simple idea.

So two simple designs in the area of solving and analysing a problem for younger students – get inspired!
